Colombian Tax ID Number / Número de Identificación Tributaria
The NIT (Número de Identificación Tributaria), also referred to as the RUT (Registro Único Tributario), is a unique tax identification number used in Colombia for both individuals and legal entities. It consists of a series of digits, typically formatted with periods and a hyphen, where the last digit is a check digit used for validation. The NIT is essential for tax purposes and is issued by the DIAN (Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales).
This identifier follows a strict format, here represented as X = alphanumeric character, A = letter, 0 = digit, and # = alphanumeric or special character (*, +, ?).
