Italian VAT number / Numero di Partita IVA
The Italian Partita IVA (VAT number) is a unique identification number for legal entities in Italy. The number consists of 13 characters. The first two are the country code "IT", followed by 7 digits as a company identifier, and 3 digits referring to the province the company was based in at the time of registration. The last digit is a check digit calculated using the Luhn algorithm.
Although this identifier can be verified against official registries, not all entities are included in the linked sources. As a result, some valid identifiers may not be found during registry checks. We'll flag these as valid but not verified.
This identifier follows a strict format, here represented as X = alphanumeric character, A = letter, 0 = digit, and # = alphanumeric or special character (*, +, ?).
