Billing
VerifyVAT uses usage-based billing.
All customers have access to the same API, with identical behaviour and response formats.
What varies across pricing tiers are usage allowances, rate limits, and overage pricing.
Those values are defined on the Pricing page.
Default account state
New accounts start without a payment method.
The API is fully usable in this state and all requests count toward the monthly quota.
If the included quota is exhausted, requests are blocked and no charges are incurred.
Usage, quotas, and overage
Each billing cycle includes a fixed number of requests.
Once the included quota is exceeded, requests continue normally only if a payment method is on file. Excess requests are billed as overage at the end of the month, including on annual subscriptions.
Each overage request includes the response header CW-Billable-Overage: true.
See Response envelope for details.
If no payment method is present when the quota is exceeded, requests fail with the error code monthly-quota-exceeded.
Rate limits
Rate limits depend on the selected pricing tier and are listed on the Pricing page.
Across all tiers, limits are enforced as hard limits.
Daily and burst (per-second) limits cannot be exceeded, and violations return a 429 error.
See Error handling for details on how to respond to rate limit errors.
Plan changes
The current plan can be changed at any time from the Profile › Billing page.
Upgrades apply immediately.
New limits take effect at once and charges are prorated, crediting any unused value from the current tier.
Downgrades apply at the next renewal.
Until then, existing limits remain active.
Cancellation
Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. After cancellation, access continues until the end of the current paid period and no further charges occur.
Refunds are not offered except where required by law.
Taxes and VAT
Providing a business VAT ID is optional.
EU customers who provide a valid VAT number receive reverse-charge invoicing.
EU customers without a VAT number are charged VAT based on their location.
VerifyVAT operates in the EU under VAT number EU372082818.
Payments and billing management
Billing is handled by an external partner, including payment methods, invoices, receipts, payment failures, renewal reminders, and subscription changes.
You can manage your subscription, view invoices, and update payment methods from the Profile › Billing page.
